Getting to know Gordy by Archi

Max Gordy is one the presidential candidates in the 2016-2017 election. He has previously not served in any political position.

On tax reforms, he is in favor of correcting our current tax system. He believes that several loopholes that allow the rich to pay less taxes need to be fixed. He also argues that “while the GDP continues to ascend, corporate tax rates have remained stagnant.” He wishes to adjust rates to match inflation.

On foreign policy, he believes that a lot of money used for the military is wasted. Therefore, he believes in a “reduction of our military presence around the globe.”

Gordy calls health care an “inalienable right” that everyone should have. However, he believes that not everyone should have the same plan nor the same price.

The EPA, he says, is not a “business killer,” but an organization that saves lives. It’s regulations will be increased according to his platform.

Education is the prime issue of his campaign. He focuses on several aspects of education: student debt, standardized testing, start times, and the school-to-prison pipeline. He wishes to increase the amount of federal aid offered to students so that the cost of college is more affordable. In place of standardized testing, Gordy pushes for “qualitative performance reviews.” His campaign wants to delay high school start times to consequently produce increased test scores. Finally, he wants to eliminate the school-to-prison pipeline, which he calls discriminatory.

Max's First Speech

"Hello everyone. I don't have much time to speak with you today, so forgive me if I am overly concise. My only goal today is to present the message of our campaign in its simplest form; a desire for real change. I would like to draw your attention to a certain figure that I find disgraceful. 1.3 trillion. That's how much Americans owe in student debt. How can we expect our graduates to prosper when they are constantly assailed by this disturbing product of a flawed system. So there are problems in this country that require a response, the question now is, who do we want to lead us in finding that answer. You have undoubtedly seen my competitors on display already this afternoon, and I ask you now in the light of our current political climate, do we want to allow showmanship to trump ideas again? As entertaining as they may be, they will not bring about real change. Change comes from hard work, a connection through the people, and an unshakeable determination to accomplish a goal. It does not come from jests. I believe that we need to make change, not jokes. And if you believe too,we can make that can be our reality."
