RORY

Nevin's Narrative by Hannah and Carmen

Although he admits to having minimal experience in politics, Rory Nevins has traveled all over the globe reporting on science and health, and has gained vast knowledge in international diplomacy regarding climate change, military policies, health care, and more. Now, he is running for what could be his first office ever held in the politics: the presidency.

“I have not been elected to office before,” Nevins conceded during an interview with The Walking Nine reporter last Thursday, “but I’ve traveled all over and that is what led me to my current campaign policy.”

Possibly Nevins’ strongest stance as of yet has been his policies on military spending, or lack thereof. However, Nevins has noted multiple times that he does not take an isolationist standpoint on international diplomacy, but rather on unnecessary intervention in foreign wars.

“We want to attempt to pull out of unwinnable wars on concepts, like the war on drugs and the war on terrorism,” Nevins firmly stated during an interview, adding that he seeks “to move towards negotiation and towards aid, and [...wants] to stay as involved in global diplomacy as possible, while avoiding entanglement in wars that we cannot win.”

While cutting back on military spending, Nevins advocates for moving military funds toward education reform and expanding the role of the federal government in education systems.

“Education is essentially the most important thing the government can be doing, and we have been grievously under spending on it,” Nevins declared, later comparing the United States’ education budget of $69.9 billion to the military budget of $597 billion. Nevins also makes it clear that he seeks to improve and reform the No Child Left Behind Act, which imposes sanctions on underprivileged schools, by instead providing aid to such schools.

While there are clearly many things Nevins seeks to change, he has declared himself a supporter of President Obama’s healthcare initiative and protection of the environment; he seeks to change, but maintain, Obamacare, and hopes to uphold and enforce EPA regulations on businesses while pushing for the introduction of an emissions tax and subsidies on companies developing environmentally friendly technology.

Nevins campaign has been a positive one thus far, and he has polled ahead of his competitors by a significant margin of seventy-seven electoral votes, which voters largely attribute to personal and intellectual appeal.

Rory's First Speech

"Good evening my fellow Americans,
My name is Rory Nevins, and I would like to be your next president.
In my years of wandering the world to report on the issues and innovations of the times, I have found that it is the innovations that are gaining ground. The outlook is optimistic -- the new interconnectedness and rapid technological development of the world are for the better. I aim to guide America toward policies that will accelerate the wonderful future that is coming, and away from those that will hinder it. The world of tomorrow will be great, if we are willing to accept the changes it brings."
