On Wednesday this week, Nov. 29, each candidate made their debut with a brief speech introducing themselves. Max Gordy was notable for his relatively long speech that exceeded 30 seconds, but that covered prominent issues in his campaign.
Gordy began by explicitly stating that he would be “overly concise,” foreshadowing his highly specific speech.
He spoke of student debt, his competitors, and his disdain for joke and entertainment driven campaigns. Gordy starkly contrasted the jokes and light-heartedness of other candidates with straight-forward thoughts and a serious demeanor.
“We need to make change, not jokes,” Gordy said. “Do we want to allow showmanship to trump ideas again?”
He asked the people directly, presenting himself as honest, straight-to-the-point, and seriou. Such questions reinforced the responsibility of the people to make decisions for the better welfare of society.
He further dove into his beliefs on student debt, hinting that this may be one of the prime issues of his platform. He capitalized on certain issues and appealed to the people specifically to make change. More to come soon on his platform and campaign.
