Financial Analysis: Bjornlund backed by wide range of donors

The Tiger Bjorlund campaign released their financial disclosure on Dec. 12. Key donations were made from influential people across multiple sectors, including politics, entertainment, and finance.

Warren Buffett contributed $25,000 to the Bjornlund campaign because although he is extremely wealthy, he agrees with the campaign’s progressive tax plan. This endorsement signifies how Bjornlund can both focus on strengthening the middle class, while still receiving support from wealthy individuals.

George Lucas, writer of Star Wars, pledged $2,700 to the campaign. Although he is a hollywood insider, Lucas has pledged to contribute to improving the education system in the U.S. As such, he has decided to support Bjornlund because of the campaign’s ideas and commitment to addressing the educational crisis in America.

Former mayor Michael Bloomberg, a passionate supporter of Health reform donated $2400 because of Bjornlund’s commitment to reform the Affordable Care Act. Michael Bloomberg was an independent when he served as mayor of New York City, and his endorsement signals that the campaign is able to get support from across the partisan aisle

A $2,300 donation came from Pat Stryker, a supporter of the arts. This donation signifies support from the arts industries.

John Stryker, supporter of the LGBT movement donated $2,300 to Bjornlund. This is a key group that Bjornlund will want to appeal to for general election success.

Greenpeace pledged $2,700 to Bjornlund because of their support for his environmental policies that will increase regulations and seek to limit human influence on global warming.

The American Federation of Teachers donated $2,600 to the campaign, signaling their support for Bjornlund’s proposed plan to heavily strengthen the American public school system. This organization previously supported Obama’s campaign, and thus their support shows how similar the messages in the campaigns are.

Senator Elizabeth Warren contributed $2700 to Bjornlund. She is one of the leading democrats in congress, and her support signifies how democrats in congress will be willing to work with Bjornlund, should he be elected.
