Presidential candidate Tiger Bjornlund released a statement regarding the airstrikes and bombings that occurred in Syria on Wednesday, Dec. 14, following a failed ceasefire manifested by Turkish and Russian forces. Bjornlund is the first and only candidate to release a statement about the tragedy.
“As a protector of human rights and human lives, I have no choice but to be appalled by the events of today,” Bjornlund wrote.
In the statement, Bjornlund urged citizens facing the crisis not to lose hope, and pledged to take action.
“As president, I will attempt to reinvigorate peace talks with Russia, the Syrian government, and the opposition forces to promote a solution that will allow for peace for the citizens of Syria,” Bjornlund said.
Bjornlund’s Aleppo statement holds true to the policies outlined in his official foreign policy platform, which has focused on balancing international and domestic issues, prioritizing the protection of human rights above all.
“He will focus on finding America’s place in an increasingly globalist society,” the campaign's official online platform states. “This means fighting to preserve and promote democracy and human rights around the globe and maintaining strong military and economic alliances.”
Though Bjornlund has emphasized that he is focused on making sure his foreign policy revolves around what is best for the citizens of the U.S., his Aleppo statement reaffirmed that his goal above all else is to ensure the safety and basic human rights of citizens around the world as well.
